Prepaid Sim Card for travelers in Galapagos
In the 21st century, one of the most tourist places in the world, lives with the worst Internet connection via Wi-fi. If you lived in the era where the Internet was connected with the telephone cable, in Galapagos you will go back in time and you will see that the Internet of the hotel or restaurant is just as slow as before.
I want to recommend to the travelers that they take some time and separate a budget to buy a prepaid chip and have a decent Internet browsing on your smartphone.
On Santa Cruz Island, exactly between Av. Baltra and Av. Charles Binford, there is an office of the CLARO telephone company, which is always empty, so the process to buy and activate your internet takes between 5 to 20 minutes.
NOTE: The company is not paying me to talk about your service. In fact, I use another company called Tuenti as part of the Movistar network and believe me it is a headache. CLARO has better coverage in the Galapagos.
To obtain a data and navigation package, you must go to the CLARO customer service windows with the following documentation:
– Bring your GSM Smart Phone (Smartphone) unlocked
– Have your passport handy
– Pay 5 dollars which is what the CLARO Sim card costs.
– Ask the customer service person to help you activate the chip on your cell phone with a 2 Gigas plan for USD 10 with a usage period of 30 days.
Now, you can enjoy the connected Galapagos Islands, uploading videos in your Instagram history or sharing the experience in your WhatsApp groups.
